England name side to face Italy

The Red Roses have made 8 changes to the side which thrashed Wales in Cardiff two weeks ago as they look to make it 3 wins from 3 in this year’s 6 Nations against Italy on Saturday.

Rachael Burford returns to partner Emily Scarratt in the centres, while in the forward pack  Justine Lucas, Vicky Fleetwood and Alex Matthews make their first starts in this year’s championship.

The Red Roses will also field a new halves combination, with La Toya Mason and Emily Scott replacing Natasha Hunt and Katy McLean, who move to the bench. In-form outside backs Danielle Waterman and Lydia Thompson are rested in favour of Sarah McKenna and Kay Wilson.

Head coach Simon Middleton is keen to give everyone in the squad the chance to prove themselves, saying: “Saturday will provide players who have trained hard week in, week out, with an opportunity to show what they have to offer on the pitch. We must respect Italy as a side and that is reflected by the depth of our preparation for Saturday’s game.”

The game is live on Sky Sports 2 and tickets are available here
