McLean suspended for rest of 6 Nations

Red Roses fly-half Katy McLean has been suspended until 26th March, ruling her out of England’s remaining 6 Nations games against Scotland and Ireland.

McLean was sent off for a dangerous tackle during England’s victory against Italy on Saturday, and appeared before the citing commissioner yesterday. She accepted that it was an act of foul play worthy of a red card and was handed a three-week ban. As there are no matches scheduled on the weekend of 5th-6th March, the ban is set to end on 26th March.

McLean’s loss is a blow for the Red Roses, as she was Player of the Match against Wales and also performed well against France. It is likely that Natalie Scott, who started against Italy, will play at fly-half for the remainder of the tournament.
